Former Congressman Bobby Rush Endorses Pat Hynes For Cook County Assessor
CHICAGO, IL – Former U.S. Congressman Bobby L. Rush today announced his endorsement of Pat Hynes for Cook County Assessor, calling Hynes the proven, steady leader Cook County needs. Despite endorsing Fritz Kaegi in 2018, Rush underscored that Pat Hynes’ is the best candidate for restoring fairness and accountability to a property tax system that has put an unsustainable burden on many South and West Side homeowners and small businesses.
“For decades, I have fought for working families across the South Side of Chicago and throughout Cook County,” said former Congressman Bobby L. Rush. “And I have listened closely to the people in my community who are being crushed by rising assessments, confusing paperwork, and a system that feels like it punishes the very neighborhoods that have struggled the most to hold on. Folks in my community aren’t asking for special treatment. They are asking for a fair shake. They are asking for an Assessor’s Office that values their homes accurately the first time, treats them with dignity, and doesn’t push seniors, longtime homeowners, and small businesses closer to the edge. Too many families have felt targeted, ignored, or left behind.”
Rush said that under Assessor Fritz Kaegi, too many residents in historically disinvested communities have faced instability and uncertainty. He believes Hynes brings the kind of experience and judgment that Cook County needs now, thanks to his experience and understanding of both government and the real-life impact of property taxes on communities.
Rush emphasized that Hynes’ approach is rooted in fairness, responsiveness, and respect for residents navigating a complicated system.
