Hynes Campaign Releases New Ads Exposing Kaegi’s Personal Property Tax Break

Chicago, IL — Today, the Pat Hynes for Cook County Assessor campaign released two new digital ads exposing continued assessment failures under Fritz Kaegi’s leadership and the consequences for homeowners and renters across Cook County.

In Fritzed, Hynes highlights how Kaegi’s own home assessment has gone down, even as many Cook County residents have seen their assessments rise. The ad underscores growing concern among taxpayers that under Kaegi, the system has become unpredictable and unfair.

In Apartment Building, Hynes calls attention to the Chicago Tribune’s investigation that revealed Kaegi’s office underassessed hundreds of buildings across Cook County resulting in $444 million in missed property value in a single year.

“Our latest ads highlight what Cook County residents already know. The Assessor's office under Kaegi’s leadership has become a mess, and taxpayers are paying for it,” said Allison Schraub, Campaign Manager for Pat Hynes. “Under Kaegi’s watch, more than a billion in property value has gone unassessed, forcing working families and businesses across the county to pay out-of-pocket to make up the difference. He’s had seven years and 2500 days to figure out how to run this office and he has failed us. It’s time for a new leadership.”

Pat Hynes has served as the Lyons Township Assessor since 2021 and brings more than 30 years of experience in the property tax field. As Lyons Township Assessor, he was recognized for excellence in fair and accurate assessments. He also spent two decades at the Cook County Assessor’s Office.

Hynes continues to build momentum with a growing list of endorsements from elected officials, community leaders, labor organizations, and residents across Cook County who are demanding real reform and accountability in the Assessor’s Office. Hynes is a certified Illinois assessment officer, a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers, and serves his community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Western Springs Fire Department.
