When the County Assessor misses new property, you pay more. It happens more often today than during prior administrations.
I felt compelled to leave a job I loved, shortly before my pension eligibility date, because I couldn't stop the Cook County Assessor from leaving thousands of new construction properties off the tax rolls while I was his employee. This is why I ran for township assessor.
We all pay more property tax to make up for these missing assessments.
This news update documents our struggle to achieve a fair and equitable distribution of the property tax burden here in Lyons township and countywide. Our team has been hard at work correcting the assessment in Lyons and working toward property tax reform countywide. Unlike his predecessors, Assessor Kaegi has struggled to add new property to the tax rolls. Please examine the assessments in your neighborhood and feel free to reach out to our office if you find something missing.
